What surprised me: this isn't a guesthouse with nice photos. It's a full-service place — spa, gym, bars, cooking classes, a restaurant that does more than hotel filler. Booking.com scores it 9.5 from 700+ reviews. That lined up with what I saw. The middling reviews complain about a missed towel or a slow check-in, not dirt or indifference. The rooftop pool at dusk, river below, old-town rooftops in the distance — that's the hour I kept walking upstairs for. ## Arrival from Da Nang Da Nang International Airport is about 30 km away — roughly forty minutes by car. My booking came with a free transfer, and it wasn't a random taxi: a proper luxury car showed up with a driver who already had my name. After a long flight, that detail mattered more than the hotel's star rating. Google Maps calls it a 13-minute walk to the Chaozhou Assembly Hall; the historic core is about 2 km. Most evenings I walked into the old town in 15–20 minutes, or took a Grab for 30,000–50,000 VND ($1.20–2) when the humidity won. What's nearby that matters: Cam Thanh coconut village is 2 km (the hotel's e-bikes make it easy), and An Bang Beach is a short ride east. You're not cut off. You're just not living inside the tailor district. ## The room I booked a **Deluxe Double** — 30 m², walk-in shower, balcony facing the river or the town depending on assignment. I paid about **$55 a night** on Booking.com in February, peak season here. The bed was firm (good for my back), the air-con quiet, and housekeeping actually replaced things instead of just pushing them into place. I didn't book every day, but the rooftop gym looked clean if you're the type who uses hotel gyms (I'm not). Little Gem puts you outside that loop but inside bike distance of everything else worth doing — coconut basket boats, beach afternoons at An Bang, day trips to My Son. I did the lantern boats once. Touristy, yes. Still worth doing — colored lanterns on dark water, the town lights smeared across the river, a short ride that feels longer than it is. After that I walked back past Ba Mu Temple Gate and left the crowds behind on the residential side of the river.
